Around and in Nashik ( Maharashtra State, India) there are many tourist spots. Some of them are of religious importance, some are famous in trekking community, some are of archaeological importance and some are wineries.
The building though from outside, looks like having two floors, actually it is having three floors.
There is one spot which has none of these and still people from all over India want to visit it. It is Bhagur. It is a small village on the bank of river Darana near Nashik. From Nashik city it is around 17-18 kms. From Nasik Road railway station it is at 8 kms distance.
If you are going by road from Nashik, you will have to cross the beautiful Deolali military campus. Clean and beautifully maintained gardens and buildings and huge, may be some centuries old trees make the road memorable.
I am sure, all of you know about Bhagur and why everyone wants to visit Bhagur. Bhagur is the birthplace of great freedom fighter, visionary, writer, poet, social activist, Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
They say that the name of the village is derived from Bhrugu Rushi's name, whose ashram was in this area.
Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was born in his ancestral home in Bhagur on 28 th May 1883. The building, which is known as Savarkar Wada was with Archaeological department of India for many years and currently Mr. Ranjit Savarkar of Savarkar Smarak, is the one, who is looking after the building. It is going to be developed into a Savarkar museum.

There is an interesting underground secret way, which goes from the house to the river. Now though the road is closed, you can see the concealed steps!
You can see the age old system of granary in the house. The granary is surrounded by walls and a small opening from lower floor. If seen from the top, it would look like a lift shaft section. Whenever grains are required, one can take out the required quantity, from the opening on the lower floor.
The place where Swatantryaveer Savarkar had taken oath of armed Revolution at the age of 14 is this place, his home in Bhagur. The idol of the goddess in front of whom, he had taken the oath was in his home for generations. But in early 20th century, as all the Savarkar brothers were out of Bhagur, it is moved to other temple, known as Khandoba Temple. This idol of Ashtbhuja devi is beautiful and looks like made f brass or panch dhatu. Devi is holding sword, lotus, conch, lamp and other attributes in her hand.
In Bhagur, we can see the school where the Savarkar brothers had studied for their primary education.
You can buy literature written by V.D. Savarkar as well as literature about him in Savarkar wada.
When Savarkar was in Andman jail, he was made to wear a badge. You can see replica of the badge in Savarkar Wada. The letter ' D' denotes dangerous.
Savarkar Wada at Bhagur and cell of Savarkar in Andman jail are the places that every person who loves own nation, should visit at least once in life.
